Your safety comes first
Here is how Occrr protects you, what happens when you report someone, and how to stay safe when you meet.
If you are in danger, call 112 (India's emergency number) right away. Then tell us, so we can act on the account.
How verification works
- Telegram users share their phone number once, through Telegram's own button. We store it encrypted. Other users never see it, and only our team can access it, for safety, support and legal reasons.
- Browser users sign in with Google.
- There is one account per phone number or Google account. This keeps out most fake and duplicate profiles.
- Selfie verification is optional. You take a selfie in the app, and a moderator compares it with your profile photos. If it matches, you get a blue badge. Premium members can choose to see only verified profiles.
What happens when you report someone
- Open their profile or your chat with them and tap Report. Pick a reason. It takes a few seconds.
- They are blocked for you straight away. They can't see your profile or message you.
- Our team is alerted and reviews the report.
- If three different people report the same profile within 30 days, it is hidden from Discover automatically until our team has reviewed it.
- Depending on what we find, we warn, suspend or permanently ban the account. See our community guidelines.
The person you report is never told who reported them.
Blocking
You can block anyone in one tap, from their profile or from a chat. Once blocked, they can't see your profile and can't message you. You don't need to give a reason.
What we never do
- We never show your phone number to other users.
- We never show your Telegram username or exact date of birth. Others only see your age.
- We never let anyone message you unless you have matched.
- We never sell your data.
Safety tips for a first date
- Video call first. A short call is the quickest way to confirm someone is who they say they are.
- Meet in a busy public place. A café, a mall or a park with people around. Never at someone's home on a first date.
- Tell a friend. Share who you are meeting, where and when. Share your live location if you like.
- Use your own transport. Get there and back on your own, so you can leave whenever you want.
- Never send money. Not for a ticket, an emergency, a gift or an investment. No genuine match will ask.
- Keep chatting in Occrr until you feel sure. Share your number only when you are ready.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels off, leave. You don't owe anyone an explanation.
How to spot a fake profile
- Photos that look like a model shoot, or only one photo.
- They avoid a video call, with a new excuse each time.
- They push you to move to another app or share your number very quickly.
- They talk about money, crypto, trading or an investment opportunity.
- A sudden emergency, a stuck parcel or a hospital bill that needs your help.
- Their story changes, or their messages feel copied and generic.
If you notice any of these, report the profile. You may be protecting someone else too. A blue badge means a moderator has checked their selfie, which is a good sign, but still follow the tips above.
